*Want to know something fun? I'm doing my first EVER Facebook giveaway going on now - Enter HERE to win a cookbook by Curtis Stone and Growing Foodie SWAG!*
This weekend, it was heading to the Big Apple BBQ Festival in NYC. We were surrounded by huge smokers and some of the best pitmasters in the country around Madison Square Park. It was absolutely insane and as you know, John and I always enjoy BBQ festivals! We couldn’t just stop at one place, right? So, we ate our way around the streets, stopping only to partake in free giveaways. You know how I roll.
We ended up at Salt Lick BBQ; they are from Texas and while I can say nothing about their restaurant or food there, I can say this stand was our absolute favorite. Which, once I tell you what they were offering won’t be a surprise – Beef Brisket and Smoked Sausage Platter. HELLO?! But what stole the show for me was the delicious slaw they put on the side. Salt Lick Slaw was an instant favorite and the moment I got home, hopped online to see if I could find myself a recipe. Lucky for everyone, I did. If you’re looking for something different, something to spice up your summer, this slaw is it.
1 head cabbage, shredded
2 carrots, peeled and shredded
1/2 cup white vinegar
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
Combine cabbage and carrots in a large bowl. In a small bowl, combine white vinegar, sugar, salt, white pepper, vegetable oil, celery seed, and toasted sesame seeds. Toss with cabbage mixture and serve immediately.
Welcome! I'm Dani (aka the Growing Foodie), just a girl balancing her career and passion for all things edible in NYC. I hope you'll join me in my adventures in life, through food. (Click for More)
